UNISON was the only trade union in attendance at talks with senior management regarding the future of the Berneslai Homes ALMO from 2012 onwards. Management have indicated a commitment to fully engage with the unions and other stakeholder in considering the future options for the organisation, and clearly stated that at this time no decisions have been made and all options are on the table for discussion.
The Council will commence consultation with housing tenants to ascertain what services are important to them.
The Council will take the lead role in undertaking the review and it will be overseen by a strategic board. UNISON have requested a seat on board and representation on the management committees. BMBC and Berneslai homes UNISON members will both have representatives involved in the talks.
UNISON is opposed to the principle of Large Scale Voluntary Transfers of Council housing and supports the direct provision of services by local authorities. Should the outcome of the appraisal result in a recommendation to transfer the Council's housing stock, UNISON will oppose such plans and campaign against the proposals.
