Pensions Day Of Action

From Barnsley to Southampton, nurses, social workers, PCSOs, librarians, dinner ladies, teaching assistants, bin men and paramedics - among many other public sector workers - stood shoulder to shoulder, marched, demonstrated and held rallies as millions strike to protect public sector pensions. And poll after poll shows that our message is getting through to the public, with the latest showing 60% support for our day of action.

We thank all of our Branch Activists and members who rose early to man the picket lines from Smithies Depot to Gateway Plaza

The Barnsley Trades Council Rally was a fantastic success and Peel Square was packed full of trade union members standing up against the governments proposed cuts to our pensions. Many members had been disappointed to hear George Osborne put more pressure on public sector workers yesterday when he announced public sector pay rises would be limited to 1% for a further two years, moves away from national pay bargaining and a review of TUPE to make it easier to transfer workers to the private sector.
