Can i please thank all those that joined me on the 28th of april and helped to commemorate workers memorial day in barnsley by wearing their purple ribbons and attending the service infront of the town hall,Unions and Campaigners have turned out in record numbers for this year’s workers memorial day which is a stark reminder to the unscrupulous employers that do not carry out safe working practices according to the health and safety laws, and that we will not just sit back and allow for this to happen without a fight ,
The most common activity on the 28th was the holding of the 1 minutes silence in the workplace, and the TUC general secretary Brendan Barber believes that the increase of interest is partly because of the recognition of worker memorial day by the government for the first time last year and the increasing awareness by people within the workplace, as well as growing concerns of empolyees and the impact of the cuts in inspections and enforcement activities by the HSE.
