Help after Redundancy?

After recently being made redundant by BMBC I was disapointed to find out that their was no help from UNISON on getting back to work or applying for vacancies.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had the same problem?

Can someone clarify the replies as one says yes help is available and the other says no?!

John. I have been researching what the local Branch can do to assist. However, courses are very limited and as your scope of learning is also limited I haven't been able to have an success in finding something that may suit your personal needs.
There is no specific facility to assist in re skilling courses other than via Job Centre Plus and various external agencies.
I do apologise that our response has been long winded and taken time coming.

Im sorry to here that you feel disappointed with unison for not recieveing any training as we pride our selfs on doing just that, we now have a number of union learning reps that could point you in the right direction aswell as a good education co-ordinator for further training and theres lots of traing providers to help in further education, they also will do cvs for you and job interview tecniques,i hope this goes some way to helping you and helps you see unison in a better light,

What form of help or support would members like to see UNISON offer to those facing redundancy? Would short courses on interview skills for example be helpful?
