Today was workers memorial day and Barnsley’s Unions and Railey Solicitors’ helped to commemorate it by organising an event in front of the town hall there was speakers from the Unions NUM and CWU as well as the Lady Mayor herself, there was also the laying of wreaths including one by myself on behalf of Unison.

It is important that we support Workers Memorial Days and remember the people that have died through bad practices and bad health and Safety by managers and big corporations, the time has never been has important has it has now with the cuts that this conservative lead government are bringing about to us all and the HSE which will inevitably lead to far fewer inspection by their officers which will lead to Health and Safety in the workplace becoming less important therefore leading to more injuries and deaths.we must all do are part and help fight for the living.

It is also a shame that whilst this government will recognise Workers Memorial Day Barnsley council will not so it is my intention this year to try to get them to recognise it for next year and observe a minute’s silence.
